Nicole Prent, First Prize recipient in the category of Best Student Paper Presentation (Oral) at the annual CAP Congress.

U of T Mississauga student, Nicole Prent, garners first place at the 2009 Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) Congress.

The CAP Congress was held June 7-10 at the University of Moncton. Nicole presented her paper, "Second harmonic generation microscopy reveals dynamics in contracting and noncontracting muscle cells." She was in competition with 22 other students from various institutions across Canada. Prent was awarded a cash prize by CAP, and an extended summary of her winning entry will be published in the summer issue of Physics in Canada

CAP is a national network of physicists working in Canadian educational, industrial, and research settings, and is supportive of excellence in physics research and education.

The annual CAP Congress is the most important general physics conference in Canada. Every year, hundreds of Canadian and international physicists meet at the host Canadian university to discuss research and exchange ideas, get information and debate matters of science policy, promote physics education and to network with colleagues. The student competition portion of the congress encourages graduate students to present their research, and to interact with the Canadian physics community at an early stage in their careers.
