Graphics at the Physics Department
The Graphics Support Centre offers the following services on a first come first serve basis:
Poster Printing:
The Centre is equipped with 2 dedicated 60" wideformat HP Plotters. Clients can choose from a variety of media including high gloss photo paper (standard for posters), heavy matt paper (for items to be laminated), tyvek and vinyl (for banners), canvas (for portraits and artwork) and fabric (for foldable posters).
Posters are normally completed within one hour, but during conference season please allow a minimum of one day.
Computer and Manual Drawing:
The staff has extensive experience with preparing images for a variety of academic publications, including books, journals, and posters. Assistance can be provided at all stages of production, from initial suggestions through to final editing and touch-up.
Photography and photographic image editing:
Staff can help with taking research related photographs, and has cameras for loan. Assistance can also be provided with touch-ups, cropping and background changes. Portrait photography for web sites, passports, etc. is also available.
Other Printing:
Several other printers are available, including a high quality 11X17 inkjet printer and an 11X17 laser printer. These are mostly used for proofing.
High Volume Printing:
While the Centre is not equipped to provide high volume printing services, we maintain relationships with several commercial printing services and are happy to facilitate and expedite high volume print jobs.
Scanning:
The center has an ArtixScan M1 - 8½"x14" high resolution scanner, which has special capabilities for scanning transparencies and slides. Assistance can be provided in making use of the large format scanner in the Robarts Map and Data Library.
Lamination:
The centre has an Akiles Hot Laminator, which can laminate up to 11"x17". Cold adhesive laminate is also available in 24” width, and 12” adhesive backing is available.
Other Services:
Foamboard mounting up to 36" wide.
