For Visiting Speakers
If you are an invited speaker in our Seminar series, please consult this page for important details.
Information for Toronto High-Energy Physics Speakers
We provide an overhead projector, an LCD projector, and a blackboard for your presentation.
Please be sure to include a solid introduction at the beginning of your talk.
Your audience will consist primarily of graduate students, postdocs and faculty. Theory audiences are composed mostly of particle and string theorists, and some theoretical astrophysicists. Stringy speakers may find a few mathematicians in the audience, and more phenomenology-oriented speakers should expect some experimentalists. Out-of-towners from nearby universities and institutes, and others, may also attend.
If you fly, please be economical. Where convenient, we would be happy to accommodate you over a Saturday night in Toronto. (This gives an inexpensive weekend in Toronto, which is known for its multi-cultural flavour and theatre.)
Our administrative staff will handle your accommodation reservation; please contact them directly. Theory speakers please contact Ms. Helen Iyer, iyer(at)physics.utoronto.ca or (416) 978-7135.
Toronto-Pearson airport (YYZ) is the largest airport close by. When you arrive, take a taxi downtown to your accommodations. The fare should be about $50 plus tip; Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards are accepted by most taxi drivers (but you should ask before alighting!).
If you fly from the U.S., you will clear Canadian customs and immigration at Toronto on the way in, and U.S. customs and immigration again at Toronto on the way out. Don't forget your passport, and make sure that you either have a valid visa or don't need one. Check here for Canadian visa info .
To aid in reimbursement of your travel expenses, please (a) sign a reimbursement form when you are here and (b) send your (original) receipts after the fact to our administrative staff as listed above. Their address is:
Department of Physics University of Toronto 60 St. George St Toronto, Ontario CANADA M5S 1A7.
For your convenience, here are links to directions on getting to the Physics Building and some information about the city and University of Toronto.
