Additional Notes

A basic knowledge of electronics and semiconductor principles is assumed.  Math and theory is kept to a minimum focusing instead on practical application.  There is a nominal fee to cover materials cost and instruction time.

In this course the student will build and take away a single channel data acquisition system that measures ambient temperature.  As well as developing their soldering skills students will understand how their boards work and know how to modify and adapt them for their own research needs.

Classes are held over four, three hour sessions which consist of a one hour lecture followed by two hours of practical time.

Topics for each session are:

Session 1
Housekeeping & Safety
Build or Buy?
Introduction to Data Acquisition systems

Session 2
Using op-amps
Introduction to power supplies

Session 3
Introduction to microprocessors, microcontrollers and programmable logic
Interfacing to digital circuits

Session 4
Impedance matching
Introduction to noise and grounding issues
