Computer Science Sessions
Bioinformatics is the application of computer science and information technology to the field of biology and medicine. While technology has always played a part in medical treatments and scientific discoveries, recently the power of computing has been applied to some huge scientific challenges, where a single computer program can solve problems that would take an army of scientists years to figure out.
In this workshop, we'll show you some of the basic tools of computing and how they can be applied to scientific problems. We start with simple applications like calculating your body mass index and the molecular mass of compounds, and build up to balancing chemical equations and finding patterns in the human genome!
