Let it be noted though, that I may also possibly be looking at a 4-Level system (or a comparison between the two) and take a quick look at how experimental research in this area agrees or disagrees with the theoretical. I know this is somewhat broad but I haven't had a chance to look at many papers on the topic yet. ABSTRACT: This presentation is a brief overview of the physics behind the dynamical behaviour of the three-level optical laser. The role of the pump laser in generating physically distinct periodic and chaotic dynamics is emphasized through the use of the laser gain, dispersion, and emission characteristics. By taking a look into the bifurcation and power spectral analysis and investigations of the global features of attractor topology under controlled parameter variation one is able to study the instabilities associated with the physically distinct mechanisms of relaxation and pump induced Rabi sideband oscillation. As well, the topological characteristics of both periodic and chaotic attractors reflect these physically distinct mechanisms, which in turn makes it possible to discriminate between both types of behaviour in the heterodyne power spectra, and the ratio of deenergization to dipole-dephasing rates is central to determining the operating characteristics of the laser. If you could get back to me on wheither or not this is a good topic that would be great.
