The Analyser
The now focused ion beam enters a spectrometer magnet (analysing filter), which inwardly bends the beam. The heavier ions are bent less than the lighter, since they carry more momentum than the lighter ions. The beam again encounters another focusing slit, which is calibrated only to allow ions of a certain mass to pass freely.

*NOTE* The abundance of 13C is exaggerated by a factor of approximately 99 times, and
14C is exaggerated by a factor of 1012 to 1016 times, for illustrative purposes.
