Velocity selection will be used to select the coldest atoms for the tunneling experiment. In the final version of the technique, a magnetic quadrupole trap will be used to contain the atoms, while the optical dipole force barrier sweeps though the trapped cold atom cloud. The coldest atoms in the distribution will be swept up to one side and then used for further study.
