The following includes material produced by the Banff Centre

Arrival

Upon arrival to the Banff Centre, please check in to the Professional Development Centre. Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. While every effort is made to accommodate guests arriving before the check-in time, rooms may not be available until 4:00 p.m. Luggage may be stored at the bell desk until the guest rooms are ready. Parking vouchers will be issued free of charge with your room keys, and the front desk will direct you to the parking areas.

Note: all accommodation rooms at the Banff Centre are designated "non-smoking" unless otherwise indicated.

Meals

The opening reception, and all meals on Sat, Sun and Mon as well as Tue breakfast are covered for conference participants. The opening reception will be in the TransCanada pavilion, all other meals will be in the Main Dining Room.

Breakfast   7:00 - 9:00 a.m.
Lunch 11:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Dinner 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

All meals are buffet style. Room service menus are also available in each guest room, and their hours of operation are from 5:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. You will be responsible for room service charges.

With 24 hours notice you can obtain a bag lunch in lieu of the regular buffet lunch on Saturday, Sunday or Monday if you wish to take up your discussion in the mountains.

Departure

Check-out time is 12:00 noon. Requests to retain rooms beyond that hour should be directed to the Front Desk Manager and may be subject to a late charge. Luggage may be held at the bell desk until time of departure.

Internet

Each room in the PDC has a data port for computer hookup. You will still need to dial your own ISP long distance or through a local access number. Access may be available through the Business Centre but it is not clear how smoothly this can be achieved and it costs $4/15minutes. If you want Internet access we strongly encourage you to bring a laptop (and a calling card).

Skiing

Lift tickets for all ski areas are available at the Banff Centre. See the snow conditions. Skiers should obtain bag lunches.

Weather

The end of February in Banff has an average high and low temperature of 2/-10C (34/15F). The variations around these averages can be large: temperatures in the low -20s C are possible and the wind chill, particularly when skiing, should be treated with caution. See the Environment Canada local forecast.

Recreation facilities

The fitness facilities at the Sally Borden Recreation Centre are also available to you during your stay with us at the Banff Centre. The hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m, and you need to show your room key to the reception desk to have access to the facilities.

Partners and children

You are responsible for the cost of room(s) for any days beyond the period of the conference (Friday night to Monday night inclusive), or for any additional rooms.

Your spouse/child(ren) may choose to have meals in the Banff Centre. They can either pay cash for the meals at the door or charge them to your room for payment when you leave at the rate of $10-95, $15-50 and $26-95 for breakfast, lunch and dinner respectively. All meals are buffets.

All additional room and meal charges should be paid for before you leave Banff.
