Frontiers in Photonics Seminars

This seminar series is sponsored by Photonics Research Ontario (PRO). PRO brings together a diverse group of researchers who are involved in activities ranging from quantum optics, novel photonic materials, photochemistry, information processing and laser physics. The Centre consists of approximately 100 researchers with the membership comprised of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty from the departments of Chemistry, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Physics, from a number of Universities across Ontario. The seminar series provides the glue that brings this diverse group together in a forum to discuss research in the general area of photonics. Both in-house speakers and invited international lecturers provide the core of the seminar program. There are also monthly seminars by industrial scientists offered in a "brain storming" session which is geared towards solving an industrial problem. This aspect of the seminar series is unique in exposing students to a "team approach" to solving problems which is typically used in the industrial sector. The Frontiers in Photonics seminar program serves to stimulate interdisciplinary research and act as an important networking vehicle for interfacing with industry.

The seminars are open to all university students and industrial researchers. It is held regularly during the academic year, every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. in the Department of Chemistry, Davenport Building, Davenport Seminar Room, 3rd floor at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario.
