Abstract

We study the kinetics of phase separation and accompanying shape deformation of a two-phase elastic membrane within a coupled field Ginzburg-Landau model. Using an exact periodic domain wall solution we solve for the equilibrium shape and phase ordering field. We observe preferential phase separation in regions of differing curvature on a variety of vesicles and estimate the degree of deformation of the membrane. We also investigate the effects of deformation on the domain growth kinetics and the interface velocity.
