Abstract
I review our current understanding of the interactions between quasiparticles
and vortices in conventional and unconventional superconductors. The parallels
and important distinctions are outlined and used to argue that new experiments
on thermodynamics and thermal and electrical transport in the vortex state
could yield some surprisingly fundamental insights into the emergent behavior
of superconductors.
