PHY2711 S SPECIALIZED
Biophysical Techniques
Official description
This course will focus broadly on biophotonics and bioimaging techniques used for biophysical research including the areas of cell biology, single molecular studies, and neuroscience. Each technical topic will be paired with a literature review that demonstrates how it was used to address a scientific question. Grading will be based on an oral presentation and report reviewing a biophysical technique chosen by the student. Some topics covered: general microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, optical trapping, single molecular spectroscopy, electron microscopy, machine vision. Scientific topics may include: motor proteins, DNA biophysics, cellular signalling, neurophysiology, and computational ethology.
