Undergraduate Colloquium: Geometric Prequantization - From Fish to Waves

Although physics starts at the quantum level and builds up, a lot of the time the math works out nicer by starting at a classical theory and making it quantum. This is the principle behind the Schrödinger and Heisenberg equations. We will develop the notions of classical mechanics such as the Poisson bracket and see how we can make this fit a quantum framework and try to fix all the issues we face along the way.
