The Kitaev honeycomb model is one of the few exactly solvable models with a spin liquid ground state. Here I will discuss the dynamics of an initial antiferromagnetic state time evolved with the Kitaev model. I find a dynamic crossover to a valence bond solid. When the spin interactions are anisotropic, an exponentially long prethermalized regime appears.
