The historical record of hurricanes is far too short and imperfect to permit good quantitative assessments of long-term risk from tropical cyclones.  In this talk I will demonstrate how a relatively simple application of physics can be brought to bear on this important problem and discuss some of the implications of hurricane risks in current and future climates.
