Talk to current graduate students about your future supervisor (you will find talking to the more experienced graduate students to be the most useful thing you can do in choosing your supervisor. It is your right to know as much as possible about potential supervisors.Don't be shy, know what you are getting yourself into.

Your sources of funding : In order to have an enjoyable and productive graduate student experience, your funding is one of the most crucial things to take care of. Please note the variations in funding among graduate students in different fields of physics, e.g. high energy, condensed matter.
