Title: Duality Approach to Fractional Quantum Hall Plateau Transitions and Composite Fermi Liquids
Abstract: We study the ``clean" fractional quantum Hall plateau transition between Laughlin state at filling 1/(2n+1) (=1, 1/3, 1/5 etc) and a trivial insulator from the recently-developed duality view point. Using quantum field theory in combination with the coupled wire technique, we find that composite Fermi liquid and its paired state (pfaffian state) at 1/2(2n+1) (= 1/2, 1/6 etc) can naturally emerge from the fractional quantum Hall plateau transition via a confinement. We further reveal the link between the three disparate descriptions of the plateau transitions, i.e., projective parton theory, composite fermion and composite boson theories. Finally, from this approach, we also obtain a closely-related state to the pfaffian state, i.e., T-symmetric anomalous state, which is the symmetric topologically ordered state of the fractional topological insulators.
