This course introduces you to the fundamentals of thermal physics, in both theoretical and experimental terms.  We will cover thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, the latter including both Boltzman and quantum statistics.

The following textbook will be used (available at the U of T bookstore):  An Introduction to Thermal PhysicsDaniel Schroeder (Addison-Wesley-Longman, 2000)

The supplementary textbooks are (reserved in Physics & Gerstein libraries):  Thermal Physics, Kittel & Kroemer (Freeman, 1980); Fundamentals of Statistical & Thermal Physics, F. Reif (McGraw-Hill, 1965).
