Teaching Assistantships, 2013/2014 Fall/Winter Session

1. TUTORIAL LEADER
DUTIES: Normally tutoring one or two groups of students for one term.
HOURS OF WORK: At least two contact hours per week plus additional duties which may include preparation, problem and test marking, consultation term test invigilation, course meetings, training session and possibly final exam marking. Between 70 and 140 hours per full session equivalent.
2. PRACTICALS INSTRUCTOR
DUTIES: Pairs of Teaching Assistants lead one or two practical groups of up to 36 students through discussion sessions and guided activities involving apparatus for PHY131 and PHY132.
HOURS OF WORK: Normally two consecutive contact hours per group per week, plus notebook marking and training sessions, totalling 49 (one group with no marking), 80 (one group with marking) or 110 hours (two groups).
3. LAB DEMONSTRATOR
DUTIES: Demonstrating in laboratory classes in first, second and third/fourth year labs.
HOURS OF WORK: Normally three consecutive contact hours per week for the term plus report marking, lab book marking and training session, totalling 50 to110 hours.
DUTIES: Marking problem sets, tests or examinations.
HOURS OF WORK: 20 - 50 hours per term depending on the course.

- QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants are expected to have a sound knowledge and proven ability in Physics and, for tutor, Practicals instructor and demonstrator positions, good communication skills and command of the English language.
- SALARIES: The current rate of pay for: UG / SGSI / SGSII / PDF is- $42.05 per hour.
