Not Just Proteins: Unravelling the role of water in protein dynamics and allostery

Proteins are molecular machines central to biological function, but their behaviour is significantly influenced by surrounding water molecules. For example, a slight increase in protein-water interactions, as seen in a heavy water (D2O) environment, can dramatically enhance a protein's functional activity. In this seminar, I will use molecular dynamics simulations to explore this phenomenon in detail and discuss how these findings could open new avenues for protein engineering.
