Controlling quantum phases is a core goal of our field. Typically, we think of quantum phases as emerging in stationary situations. Recent experimental developments made it reasonable to consider controlling quantum phases using external periodic drives, such as strong coherent light beams. This idea is at the center of 'Floquet engineering'. In my talk I will review the main themes of Floquet engineering over the past decade, as it was applied to Topological systems, or in order to achieve topological phases. I will also explore how such ideas could lead to new quantum devices.
