Prof. Pekka Sinervo, C.M. is the recipient of the 2026 Vivek Goel Citizenship Award

The Vivek Goel Faculty Citizenship Award recognizes a faculty member who has served the University of Toronto with distinction in multiple leadership capacities in diverse spheres over many years. The intended recipient of this award is an exemplary university citizen and a senior member of the faculty.

Prof. Sinervo has been recognized for his university-wide service at the departmental, divisional, and institutional level. Alongside a stellar career of research, teaching, and mentorship, he has served as a great citizen of the University providing distinguished service to the University at many levels and in many spheres. He has served with distinction as Chair of Canada’s largest Physics Department and as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science strengthened diversity in faculty recruitment and improved the experience of first-year entry undergraduate students. He continues to contribute in long-standing provostial and School of Graduate Studies roles. He has carried out important committee roles with national and international institutions and has provided critical scientific oversight for national projects as former Senior Vice-President of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
