Peter Hurley is retiring as our CAO in October after many decades of service.

Stay tuned for more on a celebration for Peter in a future issue. Peter has made a multitude of contributions to the department and has been an integral part of the department itself: we cannot thank him enough and will deeply miss his presence!

Learning Technologist Jonathan Hucker left his role in August to return to school

According to Jonathan:

Over the past two years I have served the department in the role of learning services specialist or colloquially known as the demo guy.  In this position, my knowledge of physics, creativity, and organizational skills were put to the test.  Throughout my time I have had the pleasure of collaborating with some incredible people I am proud to have called my colleagues and now my friends. One highlight I wish to share is of my involvement in the Science Rendezvous and Doors Open events which happen yearly.  It cannot be underestimated the work that is taken to organize for these events, but it was absolutely worth it to afford participants and volunteers with the opportunity to interact with science on such a direct level.  It was truly an incredible experience and if you have yet to have the opportunity to attend or volunteer, I highly recommend it.

My next chapter takes me to Ontario Tech University where I will study to become a high school mathematics and physics teacher.  Ultimately it will be my future students who will benefit from my time at U of T, as I intend to enthusiastically incorporate many physics demonstration in my classes.  I am grateful for the opportunities this position presented to me and would like to thank all the amazing people in the UofT physics department team.”
