Changes in the atmospheric general circulation mediate the response of Earth's climate to warming from increases in the concentrations of greenhouse gases. Using high-resolution climate model simulations, I will demonstrate that changes in the location of the intertropical convergence zone can lead to substantial changes in tropical cyclones frequency. This sensitivity suggests that possible future changes in convergence zone location are important in determining both the mean rainfall in the tropics and the frequency of tropical cyclone genesis.
