African humid period precipitation sustained by robust vegetation, soil and lake feedbacks

In this talk I will present some new results we have obtained (and recently accepted for publication in GRL) concerning the importance of land surface feedbacks in amplifying the West African Monsoon and thereby delivering the much greater amount of precipitation that is known to have characterized the climate over northern Africa during the “Green Sahara/African humid period” roughly 6000 years ago.
