Ground-based measurements of ozone and temperature in Germany

Routine measurements of total column ozone and ozone profiles in Germany started in the 1960s, at Hohenpeißenberg observatory in Southern Germany, and at Berlin / Potsdam in the North. The Berlin / Potsdam measurements were moved to the Lindenberg observatory in the 1970s /1990s. The long time-series show ozone depletion from the 1960s to the late 1990s, and beginning ozone recovery since around 2000. Over the entire period, the troposphere has been warming, and the stratosphere has cooled. Hohenpeißenberg also has a surface temperature record that starts in 1781 and indicates little or no warming before the 1960s. The talk will present and discuss these time-series, as well as the different measurement systems.
