MATHUSLA

MATHUSLA (MAssive Timing Hodoscope for Ultra Stable neutraL pArticles) is a proposed new detector for the High-Luminosity LHC, designed to search for Beyond-the-Standard-Model long lived particles.

Currently in the R&D phase, the detector would operate in the 2030s at CERN. It would be composed of layers of plastic scintillator blocks with wavelength-shifting fibers running through them, read out by Silicon Photomultipliers. The large volume of the detector (40m x 40m x 25m) poses interesting engineering and instrumentation challenges.
