New Physics Startup in Quantum Security

The company is called QKD Corp. and is based on the theory research of Dr Weedbrook and the experimental work of Dr Xing.

Two postdocs in the Physics department at the University of Toronto, Dr Christian Weedbrook, and Dr Xingxing Xing, have recently formed a new startup company. The company is called QKD Corp. and is based on the theory research of Dr Weedbrook and the experimental work of Dr Xing. The idea is based on a new type of security called quantum cryptography which uses properties of quantum physics to allow two users to communicate in complete secrecy. In principle, it offers unconditional security and the ability to keep sensitive material secure forever.

They aim to sell quantum cryptographic hardware, software and consulting services and have already begun work on a prototype. QKD Corp. has already received a lot of interest from investors and also potential customers. Dr Xing says that QKD Corp. is always looking for interested people to be involved.
