Abstract:
New materials are driving force of correlated electron physics. I will outline some recent developments in exploratory synthesis and characterization of several intermetallic model materials. This will include discovery of composition and field tuned magnetism and superconductivity in Nd1-xCexCoIn5, colossal magnetoresistance effect in narrow gap nearly magnetic (or “heavy fermion”) semiconductor FeSb2 and bulk superconductivity in quasi – 1D metal chains of Nb2Se3. Selected results will be presented, progressing from historical aspects of materials discovery to perspective outlook on potential collaborations.
