Extended magnetic degrees of freedom

Extended degrees of freedom in the form of d-1 dimensional domain walls for d-dimensional ordered magnets are well-known. Here, we present examples for 1-dimensional string objects naturally occurring in a range of different settings, which include the Coulomb phase of three-dimensional magnets as well as an RVB wavefunction for the cubic lattice antiferromagnet. We also address the appearance of ideas from percolation, here as well as in flat-band ferromagnets in d=2.
