Abstract:
We use holographic techniques to study thermal properties of SU(N)
super Yang-Mills theory coupled to M (<< N) flavours of fundamental matter, at large N and large 't Hooft coupling. The dual description
consists of M D7-branes in the background of N black D3-branes. In
particular, we focus on the behaviour of meson quasiparticles moving
through the thermal plasma. These quasiparticles are found to obey a "speed limit'' which can be much less than the speed of light.
Further on this model, the widths of the quasiparticles rises
dramatically as they approach the limiting velocity.
