By-Application Awards:
By-Application Awards require students to submit an application in order to be considered. In the Department of Physics these consist of the Momentum Builders Scholarship and Samuel Beatty In-Course Scholarship which are further described below.
Momentum Builders Scholarship
The Momentum Builders Scholarship has been established through the generosity of donors who wish to support the next generation of physicists and build momentum for greater diversity in physics. We wish to create opportunities for Indigenous and Black physics students to achieve their educational goals and contribute their ideas, insights and knowledge, thereby enriching our collective understanding of physics and the universe.
Conditions:
To be awarded to one or more full-time undergraduate student(s) from an underrepresented group, including Black and/or Indigenous students, in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Arts & Science on the basis of academic merit and financial need.

Samuel Beatty In-Course Scholarship
The Samuel Beatty In-Course Scholarship: Gift of the Samuel Beatty Fund in honour of the late Professor Samuel Beatty, M.A., Ph.D., LL.D., F.R.S.C., who was a member of the Department of Mathematics for over 40 years. He served for many years as Head of the Department and from 1936-1952 was Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
Who is eligible?
Any Faculty of Arts & Science student in second, third or fourth year and taking a Specialist Program offered by the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Statistical Sciences at the St. George Campus.
What are the criteria of selection?
Awards will be given on the basis of academic performance during the previous year and on the basis of need.
Who will select the winners?
A committee composed of the Undergraduate Associate Chairs (or their representatives) of the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistical Sciences.
