Please be advised that some of the lists, like the member type based ones don't allow you to subscribe/unsubscribe. If, for example you are a graduate student, you will be a member of the "student" mailing list as long as you are active in the Physics department. Implicitly, as a graduate student you will not be given access to the "staff" mailing list.
