The University of Toronto has established a approved suppliers.
Physics Services uses the following: DHL, Purolator, Fed Ex. In addition to offering cost effective services they generally allow the Department to track shipments quickly and easily (because we have a direct contact person assigned to the Department).
Physics Services has through experience found that DHL provides the best overall service. They have provided a number of additional benefits that include facilitating the preparation of the waybill of lading, and providing a computer and modem system for ‘Fast tracking’ of shipments. The system also provides an accurate billing system that facilitates recovery of charges.
Non preferred vendors are more expensive and do not allow the Department to track shipments easily or quickly. Many have additional restrictions.
If you wish to use an alternative courier service please provide some justification, as it will be a less cost effective use of services staff.
- Each day Monday – Friday physics services personnel pick-up courier and mail from the third floor room 306 at 3:00 p.m.
- Ensure that “by courier” is marked on the envelope otherwise it will automatically be sent by regular mail.
- Alternatively, if it is a last minute decision, you may bring the mail directly to the physics services in room 060 no later than 3:30 p.m. in order that the waybill or proper postage may be prepared prior to collection.
- Collection by the Courier is usually between 3:40 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. depending on the workload of the driver.
For all of the above services if you experience any problems or have any complaints or alternative suggestions as to how services can be improved please email Alex Cui or make a notation on the Suggestions Book located inside 060 (see basement map) on the shelf adjacent to the Tracker unit
