Financial Support

  • There is no separate form to apply for financial aid. All accepted students will receive guaranteed financial support (including tuition fees) for 5 years - 1 year in the M.Sc. and 4 years in the Ph.D. program or 5 years during the direct entry Ph.D.
  • Students without external scholarships are guaranteed an annual level of support in the amount of $28,500 + tuition fees (as of 2023; support levels are increased yearly). This amount includes 140 hours of Teaching Assistantship.  For exact details of support and supplementary awards for scholarship holders, please check the financial support section in the Graduate Student Handbook.
  • Students are encouraged to apply for any external scholarships for which they are eligible. For Canadians and Permanent Residents this might include the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship.  The Canada Graduate Scholarships - Master's Program (CGS M) application deadline is December 1st.  Another source of funding is the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. (Departmental deadline for submitting OGS applications is: March 31st for international students and May 1st for domestic students.) Some Non-Canadians can apply for Commonwealth Scholarships and Government of Canada Awards; check with the Canadian Embassy to determine your eligibility.  World-class doctoral students who demonstrate both leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies might apply for the Vanier CGS program. Departmental deadline for submitting Vanier applications is early September. See Financial Support and Scholarships for more information.
  • We normally do not accept self-funded students.
